A screen is a single node on the canvas. It represents one page or state of the product and carries a screenshot plus metadata.

What a screen contains

  • Screenshot: the captured image, in your chosen variant.
  • Title: an editable name for the screen.
  • URL: the page the screen came from (for captured screens).
  • Page type: a label such as homepage, pricing, signup, onboarding, or checkout (auto-detected or custom).

Page types

BenchCanvas automatically tags each captured screen with a page type. Tags help you scan a flow quickly and power chat commands like grouping by type. Auto-tagging keeps improving, and you can change a screen’s type from its properties panel if a label is off. To fix several labels at once, select multiple screens and change their page type in bulk.

Custom page types

Each project can define its own page types for labels that built-ins do not cover (for example paywall, empty cart, or waitlist):
  1. Open the page type picker on a screen (or on a multi-screen selection).
  2. Type a name and choose Create.
  3. Rename or delete a custom type from the picker when your vocabulary changes.
Custom page types are project-scoped. They carry over when you publish or instantiate a template. Built-in types stay available for everyone.
