# Design benchmarking

> Build a living reference library of the best products and benchmark your design against them.

Design benchmarking is about studying the actual shipped products, not polished case studies. BenchCanvas captures real flows so you can see every state and decision in context, then place them next to your own work.

## Workflow

<Steps>
  <Step title="Capture the products you admire">
    Paste a URL to [capture](/capture/url-capture) the real product flow, landing through dashboard, not isolated shots.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Build a reference library">
    Keep flows organized in [frames](/canvas/flows-and-frames). Group benchmarks by flow type, such as a frame of onboarding flows, or by product.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Benchmark side by side">
    Place your product or design next to the references and compare navigation patterns, hierarchy, and components.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Capture the analysis">
    Use [AI reports](/ai/insight-reports) for component inventory and visual hierarchy, then annotate findings with [comments](/collaborate/comments).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Tips

* Add your own designs as screens by uploading screenshots. See [Add screens manually](/capture/add-screens).
* Import a research or brand deck as a flow with [Import from a PDF](/capture/pdf-to-flow).
* Recapture references when products redesign so your library stays current.
* Share the library with a [share link](/share/share-links) so the whole team answers "how does X do it?" from the same source.
